The Parks
Herring Run Park is a 4-mile-long, linear park adjacent to Herring Run and its tributaries. As part of the Back River watershed, the Herring Run empties into the Chesapeake Bay. The park is 375 acres of urban woodlands. Originally conceived by the Olmsted Brothers in 1904, Herring Run Park was recommended as a stream valley park extension of Montebello Park (today the Lake Montebello recreation area). The park is defined by the Herring Run, a lovely stream which meanders through it. Learn more about the park's history.
Herring Run Park is the main focus of Friends of Herring Run Parks. Additionally, since the Herring Run stream and its tributaries stretch to neighboring parks, the Friends group also advocates for these parks.
